Bye Japan!

My stay in Japan is almost coming to an end.  I'm here at Haneda airport about to leave for LAX in a few hours.  What a trip!  Who would have thought I could take a month long vacation only a few months after an equally long Caribbean vacation?  I'm grateful for my boss and co-workers at Pebble Beach where I work and my bae, my husband for letting me go back home to see my family in Fukuoka.  I had a fabulous time staying at my Mom's place, seeing my Dad briefly (my parents have been divorced and live in different towns) and visiting my sister and my cutie pie nephew as often as I could.  And the rest, I really slowed down and spent my time just relaxing!  It was luxuary to me.

And, I also took a chance to do what I had been wanting to do which was to have a workshop in Japan!  And it wasn't just one, it was in Tokyo and Yokohama!  I was so excited to see my students in person who I had only seen through online camera!  I'm so thankful for those who showed up.  My gratitude is all yours!  

This is a short thank you note to all those who kindly welcomed, accepted and supported me during the stay.  I will upload more pictures and write about my stay, what I've enjoyed and my thoughts.  Much thanks to y'all!!!  





Useful Words & Phrases

My stay in Japan is almost coming to an end         日本の滞在がもう少しで終わろうとしています。 Come to an end  で終わりになる、終わりに来る、という意味。

…about to leave for LAX                                            もうすぐLAXに経つ　　be about to で、〜をしようとしている、〜しているところだ、という意味。I'm going to leave と未来系で使うよりもっと切羽詰まった感があり、今〜しようと思っているところだった、と表現したいときにも使える。　例えば… 3時に友達と待ち合わせをしていて2時45分くらいにその友達から電話が入ったら、今家を出るところだったよ、と伝えたいときに　I was about to leave now! といった方が、I was going to leave now! よりも、リアルに今出ようとしてたんだ、という雰囲気が伝わる。

What a trip!                                                                 なんて旅行だ！　と、感情を出したいときに使う表現。また、ダブルミーニングもあり、trip は口語スラングで、パニクったり、正気を失っておかしくなったりする意味だったり、クレイジーな感じでとてつもなくおもしろかったり、という意味がある。ので、ここでは、とてもすごい！　という意味も込められます。

Who would have thought…? または　Who'd have thought…?        〜てことになるなんて！　直訳すると、誰がそんなこと思ったでしょう？　　なので、信じられないことが起きたときや、まさかそんなことになるなんて！　などの表現をしたいときに使える。

I'm grateful for                              　　　　　　　　　   〜に感謝する、ありがたく思う。　I'm grateful for your help.  I'm grateful for your kindness.  

Bae                                                                                    Before Anything/Anybody Else の頭文字を取ったacronym(頭文字でできた言葉)。ここでは私の husband のことを言っている。　優先順位が先に来る人のこと。　4〜5年前くらいからはやりはじめた言い方。ベイ　と発音。自分にとって大切な人に対して、または呼ぶときに使う。彼氏、彼女、旦那、奥さんに対して使うことが多い。　Baby, Honey, Darling とにた使い方。

Cutie pie                                                                      かわいこちゃん。　子供や、かわいい感じの人やタイプの男性にでも使える言葉。　

Slow down                                                                   ゆったりする、ペースをゆるめる。

I took a chance                                                            機会を作った、トライしてみた。

In  person                                                                     直接に(会う)、　実際に

I'm so thankful for                                                       〜に感謝する、ありがたく思う。　I'm grateful for と同じ使い方。
