I was never into them. Although they were the heartthrobs and teen/girl sensations of the ’90s, I never paid too much attention to this Boy Band. But these days, these guys seem popping up everywhere again. They dropped their 10th album, were nominated for Grammy early this year, finished 2 years of Vegas residency and the world tour. Yes, I'm talking about the Backstreet Boys. Haha, I can't see myself writing about them but to do so, I did plenty of research, mainly by watching them on YouTube and listening to them on Spotify. It was such an eye-opening experience to find out so much more about the band. I have to say I was underestimating their talents (sorry!) and who they really were as a group and as individuals. Okay, I don't mean to diss them or anything but back in the ’90s when they were all over, I was more into Girl Bands specifically TLC, and Hip Hop and R&B music than Pop music, let alone Boy Bands. But as I browsed around MTV, VH1 and other music channels just to check out Hip Hop and R&B videos, they would show up with the songs like Everybody (Backstreet's Back) or I Want It That Way. The songs were very catchy and without noticing, commercially played Pop songs became my memory lane 20 years later, and believe it or not, their hit songs subconsciously became my nostalgia.

Today, I'd like to post their new single called ”Let it be me”. 20 years after the height of their career, they are still singing with perfect harmony, pitch and urban vibe of falsetto. Plus, they haven't forgotten the Boy Band signature of dance. What captured me the most is their music video. I was definitely touched by the message. Although the boys who are men now make appearances, the focus is more on the individuals who are featured in the video; their struggles and challenges in life. ”Let it be me”, in other words, I take the punches for you. That's my interpretation of it. Before I slip out anything, I want you to watch it.

Oh by the way, the DJ you see in the video is Steve Aoki who is the son of Rocky Aoki who created the famous Teppan Japanese restaurant Benihana in the US. He is also the brother of a model/actress Devon Aoki.

Discovering how humble, down to earth and funny they are, I started liking them! Who would've thought they would come back with new songs and videos in 2019? (Actually they've been around all this time off the spotlight.). They still dance by the way! Now that they've grown and matured and are seemingly enjoying their fatherhood and family life, their vibes and flavor (and the videos) changed a bit, in a good way. How many bands or groups are still remained from the '90s? You can count on the fingers of one hand. That means maybe it is not as easy as you think for a band to stay together for such a long time. But they are doing it. It's the longevity that I admire. Consistency and patience that I respect. With ups and downs, highs and lows, they've been still together. I feel I learned something very important from them. I'm thankful for it.
